Inktober Crowns a Winner: Jack Corpening

Meet the guy behind some of Inktober's most weird and wonderful creations.

If you’ve kept up with Psyop over the years, we don’t have to tell you that our vision is a growing, changing, ever-expanding beast all on it’s own. From heartwarming holiday spots to blade-wielding game trailers, you could say we are certainly diverse. The fact of the matter though, is that it takes a group of individuals as wide-ranging as our work is to successfully create so many types of worlds.

Enter, Jack Corpening. If you recognize his name, it’s not too surprising… Last month we featured a slew of his artwork that eventually snagged him the title of Psyop’s official Inktober winner. From detailed ink doodles to vivid cartoons, (not to mention his striking knack for reinventing the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song…) Jack embodies a style all his own, and we’re here to get you all acquainted with him.

If you could describe your artistic style with 3 words, what would they be?

Tactile, chunky, warped-and-weird.

When did you know that this was the path you wanted to take in your career?

In Ringling College born and raised

In the labs was where I spent most of my days

Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool

And all hangin’ out with Photoshop/Maya outside of the school

When Nellie and Jon who were up to no good

Started makin’ trouble in my career services hood

I got in one little interview and Nellie got scared

She said 'You're comin’ with us back to Psyop LA’

What is one movie/cartoon/comic series/etc that you wish you could have worked on?

Avatar: The Last Airbender.

If you were a fictional character…. Who would you be?

Aang, but super socially awkward.

Pick one of your Inktober pieces. Okay, why did you pick this one?

People would always yell, “GET IN THE BOX,” to me when we passed by a Jack in the Box as a kid, so I wanted to make a comic showing their mascot as a traumatized shell of a man. The theme that day was Box.

Made in Microsoft Paint with a mouse plugged into a potato.

If you’ve already fallen in love with Jack just from this blog (we understand, us too) then keep that fire burning by checking out his entire Inktober collection, along with the rest of the talents in our Team Psyop Facebook Album here. Congratulations, Jack!
